Overview

The customer reports that they are seeing Duplicate CDRs in the PCRF in the path: /home/netvertex68/server/data/csvfiles/CDR

Analysis

• Upon checking the network traces it was identified that there are multiple Nokia NAS sending multiple RADIUS interim Accounting requests.

• In the above example, Request-ID 161 was sent by Nokia NAS and another request 162 was sent before a response was sent back from the PCRF.
• AAA node proxied both the interim packets to PCRF and this resulted in Duplicate CDRs on the PCRF as each request is processed by the PCRF.
• The issue was seen for INTERIM-UPDATE Requests and not for STOP or START Accounting-request.

  • Note: change Wireshark settings to configure the Destination Ports as RADIUS protocol in Edit > Preferences > Protocol

Solution

• Request the customer to check the configuration at the Network Element end. An example, in this case, is the Nokia NAS.
• One option is for the customer to fine-tune the timeout configuration so that Network Element will wait for some time for the response from AAA/PCRF nodes.
