INACTIVE Subscriber still gets IP address

Overview

An inactive subscriber may still get Internet connection or IP access after a change in user status from active to inactive via a batch process

 

Solution

 When the batch process changes the subscriber status from active to inactive from AAA although the customer's validity is expired, it does not clear the Idle sessions.

 

To clear the Idle/Inactive session either

  • An Accounting stop request needs to be sent from BNG to AAA or
  • The auto session clean-up script needs to be configured as per the customer's preferences. 

 

Sometimes, using queries on the Active Sessions in the AAA GUI it can be noted that there are active sessions for the Subscribers which meant customers would still be allowed to browse.

 

It can be noted that the Issue appears only when a customer performs a batch operation for 6k users. If they perform the same operation for a small batch then there is no issue. So general recommendation is to perform Inactivation in small batches
